The Turkish Airlines McDonnell Douglas DC-9-32, registered as TC-JAB, is an important part of Turkish aviation history. This aircraft joined the Turkish Airlines fleet in the late 1960s and early 1970s, actively serving both domestic routes and short-haul international flights during that period. The DC-9 series, known for its modern and reliable design, helped improve service quality and allowed Turkish Airlines to achieve higher aviation standards. However, on January 26, 1974, the aircraft with registration TC-JAB was involved in a significant incident. During takeoff from İzmir Cumaovası Airport (now Adnan Menderes Airport), the aircraft veered off the runway, resulting in a major accident. Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but the aircraft sustained substantial damage. This incident became a critical point for Turkish Airlines to further enhance operational safety and maintain high standards of flight safety.
